I am curious if there is a difference between Gracie Jiu-jitsu and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu I always thought they were the same. But a friend was telling be they are different but could not tell me what was different. If anyone has an answer on the difference maybe the Gracie guy could could shed some light on the subject.

Thanks

Well Lance the main difference is Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is a complete martial arts system that covers self defense, sport and vale tudo applications. The self defense portion includes applications for every possible scenario every type of punch, kick, grab, tackle, weapon attacks knife, gun and club, special situational training for law enforcement and military that is used by F.B.I. D.E.A. A.T.F and most other major state and government agencies it is the system used for all modern army combatives taught today. Vale Tudo would be the proper use of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in a fight (mma) for example someone using a butterfly, half or x-guard in a fight and getting thier brains beat in would be an example of BJJ. Sport Jiu-Jitsu is what they would share in common.  Some BJJ schools due teach aspects of all three but most today are limited to training for sport application gi or no-gi.
