I am interested to know if anyone has an opinion on striking an opponent's head/face with a fist or with an open hand. It seems to me that using an open hand would minimize the chance of breaking your own...

just think of it this way, would you rather punch the ground are palm strike it.
The head is just basically, a coconut or in my case . a rock go around punching rocks, and you'll definitely pay a price with broken bones and splinted fingers.
yeah yeah yeah, I know, you can train the hand, bla bla bla , but were talking about straight out normal human beings.
