Mitch Magpiong has over 20 years of martial arts experience, many of those years devoted to the study of Taijiquan. He began his studies in the Korean martial art of Tang Soo Do under Master Dominic Giacobbe, where he achieved the level oa 2nd degree Black Belt. During this period he competed and won in many forms, breaking, and fighting competitions. Most notable was when he took 3rd place at the 1985 Regional Olympic Qualifying Event in the art of Tae Kwon Do.

In 1995 he began studying Tai Chi and Qigong under Master Chen Ho. During this period he also had the opportunity to study Qigong and meditation under Master Chen’s teacher, Grandmaster Feng Fu, who is doctor of Chinese medicine as well as an acupuncturist.

In 1998 he began his training in Chen Style Taijiquan under Master Ren Guang-Yi. Master Ren is a senior disciple of the 19th generation standard bearer of Chen Style Taijiquan, Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang. Under Master Ren’s instruction he studied the traditional Chen Style standing meditation, silk reeling, barehand forms, straight sword, broad sword, spear, kwondao and push hands as well as martial arts applications for self-defense.

He has also traveled several times over the past few years to Chen Village, China, the birthplace of Taijiquan, to further his study of Chen Style Taijiquan. In the fall of 2007he was officially inducted as a disciple of 19th generation Grandmaster Chen Xiaoxing.
